Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 large egg

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

For the Sauce:

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)

For Assembly:

4-6 sub sandwich rolls (depending on the size you prefer)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Meatballs:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, Italian breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Using your hands, mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

      - Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

        Cook the Meatballs:

          - Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are thoroughly cooked and exhibit a golden brown color.

            Heat the Sauce:

              - While the meatballs are baking, pour the marinara sauce into a medium saucepan. Add the red pepper flakes if you want to introduce some heat. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is warmed through.

                Combine Meatballs and Sauce:

                  - Once the meatballs are cooked, transfer them to the saucepan with the marinara sauce. Carefully stir to fully coat the meatballs in the sauce.

                    Assemble the Subs:

                      - Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, ensuring not to cut all the way through, creating a hinge.

                        - Place several meatballs inside each roll, generously spooning extra sauce over the top. Finally, sprinkle a handful of shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs.

                          Melt the Cheese:

                            - Place the assembled subs on a baking tray. Return them to the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes, keeping a close watch to prevent burning, until the cheese is melted and bubbling.

                              Serve:

                                - Remove the subs from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve immediately. Pair these delicious sandwiches with a side of crispy chips or a refreshing salad for a perfect meal!
