Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 large eggs

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup unsalted butter (for the batter)

1/4 cup unsalted butter (for browning)

1/2 cup pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Confectioners' sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray.

Prepare the Brown Butter: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter. Swirl the pan occasionally as it cooks. Continue until it turns a golden brown color and emits a nutty aroma, which should take around 4-5 minutes—be careful not to let it burn! Once browned, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, vigorously whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, the cooled brown butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and uniform.

Combine Mixtures: Gently pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Using a spatula, fold them together until just combined. Avoid overmixing—the batter should be somewhat lumpy.

Pipe Donuts: Prepare a piping bag, or a zip-top bag with one corner cut off, to transfer the batter. Pipe the batter into the greased donut pan, filling each cavity approximately halfway.

Bake the Donuts: Place the donut pan in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean. Leave the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Glaze: In a small saucepan, melt the remaining 1/4 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat until it is browned (similar to step 2). Remove from the heat and whisk in the maple syrup until the ingredients are well combined and smooth.

Glaze the Donuts: Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the warm glaze, allowing any excess to drip back into the saucepan. Return the glazed donuts to the wire rack.

Finish with Sugar: While the glaze is still wet, dust a light coating of confectioners' sugar over the donuts for a delightful sweetness.

Serve and Enjoy: Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving. These delectable maple brown butter glazed donuts pair wonderfully with a warm cup of coffee or tea!
