Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

3 cups fresh broccoli florets

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 carrot, julienned

3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

2 teaspoons sesame oil

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 tablespoon cornstarch

¼ cup beef broth

Salt and black pepper, to taste

Sesame seeds and finely sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, the cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well to ensure the steak is evenly coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes while you prep the remaining ingredients, allowing the flavors to meld.

Prepare the Sauce: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and beef broth until smooth. Set this flavorful sauce aside, ready to be incorporated later.

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef slices in a single layer. Sear the beef for approximately 2-3 minutes on each side until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and transfer it to a plate, leaving the juices in the pan.

Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and stir-fry for roughly 2 minutes until it starts to soften. Then add the minced garlic, ginger, red bell pepper, and julienned carrot. Continue stir-frying for another 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender yet still retain some crunch.

Incorporate Broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the skillet and stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes. The broccoli should turn a vibrant green and become tender-crisp, perfectly complementing the other vegetables.

Combine and Simmer: Return the seared beef to the pan along with the sautéed vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture, and stir to ensure everything is coated evenly. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to bubble and thicken slightly to create a delicious glaze.

Serve: Remove the pan from heat and garnish the dish generously with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for a burst of flavor and texture. This dish is best served immediately over a bed of fluffy cooked rice or noodles for a complete meal.
