Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup pumpkin puree (not pie filling)

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon pumpkin spice (or a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing it lightly with butter or lining it with parchment paper to facilitate easy removal once baked.

Melt Chocolate and Butter: In a medium saucepan set over low heat, combine the chopped bittersweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is completely melted and smooth. Once melted, remove it from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

Mix Brownie Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar and packed brown sugar. Pour the cooled chocolate mixture over the sugars and stir well. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition to ensure a well-integrated mixture. Finally, stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder until they are well mixed.

Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain the brownies’ fudgy texture. Set the batter aside.

Prepare Pumpkin Cream Cheese Swirl: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and pumpkin spice, mixing until smooth. Finally, fold in the pumpkin puree until fully combined.

Layer Brownie Batter and Pumpkin Mixture: Spoon half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Drop spoonfuls of the pumpkin cream cheese mixture over the brownie layer. Use a knife or toothpick to gently swirl the two mixtures together. Pour the remaining brownie batter on top, then drop additional spoonfuls of the pumpkin mixture and swirl again.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes. The brownies are done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter) clinging to it.

Cool & Serve: Once baked, allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting them into squares.

Enjoy: Serve these decadent brownies warm or at room temperature. For an extra special touch, consider dusting them with powdered sugar or drizzling with chocolate sauce before serving.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 24 squares

Presentation Tips: For a festive display, serve the brownies on a decorative platter with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a few pumpkin seeds for garnish.
