Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend preferred for juiciness)

1 cup cremini mushrooms, finely chopped

1/2 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

6 slices Swiss cheese

12 slider buns

2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

Fresh thyme leaves for garnish (optional)

Sticky sweet BBQ sauce (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions

Cook the Mushrooms: In a medium skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped cremini mushrooms, onion, and minced garlic. Sauté for approximately 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown and the onions become translucent. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Once cooked, remove from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.

Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, and the cooled mushroom mixture. Gently mix the ingredients together until just combined, being cautious not to overwork the meat to keep the patties tender.

Form the Patties: Divide the beef mixture into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into small patties, making them slightly larger than the slider buns, as they will shrink during cooking.

Cook the Patties: Return the skillet used for the mushrooms to the stove and add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Heat over medium-high heat. Add the formed patties to the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese.

Assemble the Sliders: While the patties are cooking, you can toast the slider buns. Place them in a preheated oven or on a grill until they turn golden brown. To assemble the sliders, place each patty on the bottom half of a bun. If desired, drizzle a small amount of sticky sweet BBQ sauce over the patties. Top with the other half of the bun.

Garnish and Serve: For an added touch, sprinkle fresh thyme leaves over the patties before adding the top bun, enhancing both flavor and presentation. Serve the sliders immediately with sides of your choice, such as crispy sweet potato fries or a refreshing salad.
