Ingredients

1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper

¼ tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp onion powder

2 tbsp vegetable oil

½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice

½ cup packed brown sugar

2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce

1 tbsp rice vinegar

1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)

Zest of 1 large orange

Sesame seeds for garnish

Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss the chicken pieces in the flour mixture until they are coated evenly. Shake off any excess flour and set the coated chicken aside on a plate.

Cook the Chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot (but not smoking), add the coated chicken in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Transfer the cooked chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Pour in the freshly squeezed orange juice, packed brown sugar, low-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, and the orange zest. Stir the mixture well and bring it to a gentle simmer. Allow the sauce to thicken for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Thicken the Sauce: Once the sauce has started simmering, slowly add the cornstarch mixture while continuously stirring to prevent lumps from forming. Continue cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce becomes thick and glossy.

Combine Chicken and Sauce: Add the cooked chicken back into the skillet and toss it thoroughly in the sticky orange sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, ensuring that the chicken is heated through and fully coated with the sauce.

Serve: Transfer the Sweet Sticky Orange Chicken to a serving platter. Top with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and sliced green onions for an extra burst of flavor and a pop of color. This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice, quinoa, or a side of stir-fried vegetables.
