Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Garlic Gravy:

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups low-sodium chicken broth

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Mix the Meatball Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, whole wheat breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix using your hands or a spoon until all the ingredients are evenly combined.

Form the Meatballs: With your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs that are approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Arrange the meatballs evenly on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one for even cooking.

Bake the Meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F) and lightly browned on the outside.

Prepare the Garlic Gravy: While the meatballs are baking, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Once the butter is melted and sizzling, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until it becomes aromatic.

Make the Roux: Gradually stir in the flour, cooking for an additional minute while continually whisking to prevent lumps from forming. Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking, ensuring a smooth mixture.

Season the Gravy: Add the Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, and adjust with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer the gravy, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency, which should take about 5-7 minutes.

Serve: Once the meatballs are baked and the gravy is ready, transfer the meatballs to a serving platter. Generously pour the garlic gravy over the meatballs. For an appealing touch, sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
